Well, decided to give samba a try, first time user, i was able to figure it out after like 4 hours. i felt like a dummy i swear once i realized what i was doing wrong. geez, i’m supposed to know this shit. anyway, installed debian sarge with the netinst disk, and everything went really smooth, i’m thinking of redoing it with gentoo later, mostly cuz i don’t want a lot of the stuff that got installed with the debian, and i don’t want to take the time to remove it all. it’ll be slow i know, the computer is an old gateway machine with a 500MHz Pentium III processor, i dumped a 100GB hdd into it for the windows shares, and installed the os on the 6 gig drive. I did install the extra devel pkg’s but i think that was a mistake. Not that they hurt anything, but the fact i don’t ever think i’ll use that system for development. what i’m gonna play with next LVM, i’ve never set up LVM by myself before, but i’m pretty sure i can figure it out. If i fucker it all up, np, i got the system for free, so i’m not really losing anything. Thats the great thing about having friends that have to allways have the best equipment… i can usually get all my computer parts for free. anyway, i’m hoping to have a couple of 360GB drives to try it out on, let you know how it goes.
ok, ok, enough of samba, now for PuTTY, its great, it allows me to remote install and manage all my headless boxes, if you’ve never tried it, look it up on google and give it a shot. Its God’s gift to SSH *and I’m like atheist and shit, and this software has made me question that many times, i’m mean, if theres no God, how would anyone come up with anything that sweet….*
ok, i’ve rambled for long enough, poste more later
