New job

Well, i’m not quitting my other job, but I have become the webmaster for adepttechs.net! Yes, my dream job come true. I’m currently working on streamlining the site, putting missing info where it belongs. The main administrator got really behind on main website, I mean to remedy that. He runs an excellent server, and it’s really fast. I know this first hand. Anyway, i figure it will take me a couple weeks to get most of it done to the point that you won’t notice things haven’t been done, and about a month till its completed to the point where any new additions are purely cosmetic. The sign up functions are fully functional, and will get you to the right plans, so that is good news, and one less thing that I have to worry about. The only thing that is missing is the information on the ordering pages that tells you what your ordering besides the plan name. That is going to be one of the first things I fix. I’m also adding a community support forum. I plan to provide basic tech support in assisting customers on connecting to their servers, as well as a place where people can discuss web design and help each other solve coding problems that they might have.

I’m currently discussing with Geoff whether or not we should provide sub-domains. He doesn’t want to off of his main domain http://www.adepttechs.net/ but we might off of the .com and the .org. Well that remains to be seen at this point. Anyway, wish me luck.

Hand starting to feel better now

Well, it feels good enough to type, so I thought i would make another post. I’ve been searching around the web and noticed a few interesting articles relating to Nokia’s position against the W3C recommending Ogg/Theora as a video codec for HTML5 video over web technologies, to Mozilla Penelope, the open source decendant of Qualcom’s Eudora. A lot of exciting stuff going on in the world of tech today. Anyway, my position is a little more simple then theres… does it work? And how much will it cost me to implement. If it’s more then I can afford, priority 1 doesn’t matter, if it doesn’t work, priority 2 doesn’t matter. It has to meet both for me to adopt it. I’m sure most of you will agree.

About my new server that I shall be renting sometime next week. The services I plan to run are FTP, HTTP, POP (or possibly IMAP depending on research), SMTP, SSL, SSH, and possibly IRC, but I may opt to merely host a channel on another server somewhere. Probably irc.undergroundsystems.org as Underground Systems really helped me to get my public start.

I am working on a custom CMS for haktstudios.com, you won’t find it on my page yet as it’s still in alpha testing and not yet open to the public. In fact, its only on my private testing server as of yet, and the first stages of its implementation aren’t scheduled to be upload for at least a month. I do plan on releasing all the source code to the public, under which license, i’ve yet to decide. Maybe someone else will like my project and plan to use it on their own system. I don’t see much wide use of it as I am not providing technical support for it at this time, but if enough demand for tech support arises, I may opt for pay technical support. I don’t really feel like supporting it as I don’t have the time nor the resources. I do plan to continue development of it and improvement as well.

HaKT/OS my linux distrobution is entering the final stages of alpha and about to enter public beta. I’ve put it on hold till I have the new server set up as with my current setup, I am unable to provide a means of getting the public beta. I hope to submit the public beta to ibiblio and kernel.org. Hopefully they will mirror it and help take off some of the load… Anyone else who wants to mirror it should contact me at t0nedef[at]haktstudios[dot]com.
